Sometimes the circumstances are such that a child’s birth parents, for whatever reason, are unable to fulfill their role as parents, and sometimes it is possible for a family member to adopt the child.

In British Columbia, a birth parent or a guardian related to the child is permitted to place a child for adoption when the prospective adoptive parent(s) is a relative of the child.
