Shanal is an associate in our Chilliwack office and a member of our business, real estate and banking law groups.

In his business law practice, Shanal assists business owners with all their legal needs. Whether it’s forming, reorganizing, dissolving, purchasing, or selling their business, or drafting and reviewing contracts and agreements such as shareholder or partnership agreements or commercial leases, or general advice on corporate and commercial matters, Shanal finds solutions to both the everyday and unexpected challenges that businesses face.

In his banking practice, Shanal acts for lenders (including commercial banks and credit unions) and borrowers. Shanal also does real estate work, helping clients with the purchase and sale of real property, and acting for developers of subdivisions and strata properties.

Shanal’s background has given him a passion for business and he finds it rewarding to leverage his diverse range of experiences into his legal practice. He grew up in Cloverdale and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Kwantlen Polytechnic University.  Throughout this time, he worked for his family business building and installing cabinets and doing home renovations, while also running his own tutoring business.

After obtaining his Certified Management Accountant designation (a designation now known as Chartered Professional Accountant or CPA), Shanal pursued his dream of becoming a lawyer.  He completed his Juris Doctor in 2017 at Thompson Rivers University’s Faculty of Law.

During the summers between law school, Shanal volunteered with the UBC Law Students’ Legal Advice Program where he provided free legal services to low-income persons. He then completed his articles with Waterstone Law Group LLP and joined as an associate in 2018.

A recent transplant to the Fraser Valley, Shanal moved here to be closer to the mountains.  Outside of the office, Shanal enjoys traveling, reading non-fiction, expanding his board game collection, keeping up with technology, trying out new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends.
